Speaking from the bustling Japoma Stadium, the pontiff emphasized the country’s natural riches contrasted with persistent material and spiritual shortages, urging young people to foster hope and avoid corruption.
Throughout his 11-day Africa tour, Leo has been vocal against corruption and social injustice, challenging long-standing authorities and encouraging values like faith, family, and work. His message resonated deeply as thousands of attendees, some overnight, cheered and celebrated his arrival, with many willing to endure discomfort for the chance to hear him.
Later, in Yaoundé, Leo engaged with students at the Catholic University of Central Africa, stressing that investing in youth education and entrepreneurship is key to peace and societal progress. Cameroon’s young population, high unemployment, brain drain, and economic challenges remain pressing issues, amplified by recent political unrest and long-term governance concerns.
