Three Californians involved in a scheme to defraud insurance companies by staging fake attacks on luxury cars with a person dressed as a bear have been sentenced. The scam unfolded in Lake Arrowhead, where viral footage showed a bear attacking high-end vehicles, prompting an investigation. Biologists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed the footage depicted a human in a bear suit, leading to the uncovering of the fraud.

The suspects, Alfiya Zuckerman, Ruben Tamrazian, and Vahe Muradkhanyan, filed claims for over $140,000 in insurance payments, claiming damages from the fake attacks. Following the investigation, authorities executed a search warrant at their home, recovering the costume and other evidence. The suspects pleaded no contest to felony insurance fraud and received 180 days in jail along with two years of supervised probation. Insurance officials emphasized the importance of accountability in preventing such scams.
